Here are a few views of our campsite at Beavertail Hill State Park. We were situated right on the bank of the Clark Fork River. I thought that the sound of the rushing river would be soothing, but I think it actually kept me awake for a long time.

Our camping trailer also gets a couple of pictures. The box is about 3 by 5 feet, with 20 cu. ft. of storage inside. In addition, the opened tent has a 3 by 5 foot standing area over 8 feet high. The fold-out platform has a queen size mattress about 3-1/2 feet off of the ground. Its major disadvantage is that it takes two people to set it up. Other than that it is quite convenient and comfortable. The trailer is called a 'Trailblazer' and is made by USA VenturCraft in Abilene.

Leaving the campground, we drove on the interstate to Missoula. On the bank of the Clark Fork River is the old Milwaukee Road station. It is now used to house part of a local community college. The old railroad grade has now been developed as a recreation trail along the river.

After Missoula, we drove up US 93 towards Flathead Lake and Kalispell. Westbound US 2 leads eventually to Moyie Springs and the Moyie River Canyon. The canyon is spanned by a 1200-foot long steel girder bridge that is 464 feet above the river. Much longer and higher than anything we would have expected.

Tomorrow we are going to the Canadian Museum of Rail Travel here in Cranbrook (that's why we came this way). The town is rather crowded this weekend for Sam Steele Days. Apparently Sam Steele was an RCMP officer who was able to settle a dispute between the indians and local miners without anyone being killed.
